ArmInfo. The referendum in Catalonia made significant corrections to the European vision of the Karabakh conflict. Armen Ashotyan, chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, expressed this opinion during a round table organized by the Armenian Institute of International Affairs and Security.
"Europeans tend to view the Karabakh conflict in the light of the latest, general centrifugal tendencies in Europe and the referendum in Catalonia in particular, and it is very difficult for them to explain the huge difference between the causes of the Karabakh conflict and the Catalan referendum. This is why the signing of an agreement between EU and Armenia is important from the point of view of geopolitics and geoeconomy," he noted.
In this context, Ashotyan stressed the important role of signing the agreement in ensuring regional security in general. According to his estimates, the Armenian side of the negotiations expects the use of the EU political formula in the economy and in the political aspect towards Armenia. In particular, the points of the Karabakh settlement included in the Agreement.
"The presence of the provisions on regional conflicts in the Armenia-EU Agreement and the corresponding Brussels position is very important for us, I can also note that the reforms envisaged by the agreement are not imposed from the outside and completely correspond to our internal agenda," the parliamentarian concluded.
November 24, 2017 at the Brussels summit of the "Eastern Partnership" Armenia plans to sign a partnership document on the partnership with the EU, which was initialed on March 21 - the Agreement on Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership.
