ArmInfo. On October 23, the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov received the deputies from Mexico Blancu Margarita Quat Dominguez, Maria Cristina Teresa Garcia Bravo, Carlos Hernandez Miron and the persons accompanying them.
Sharmazanov, welcoming the guests, noted that the visit of Mexican deputies is notable for the fact that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Mexico. Touching upon bilateral relations, the NA Vice Speaker expressed confidence that the work of the friendship groups formed in the parliaments of the two countries will open a new page and raise the existing, even higher level, existing relations both in political and economic and other spheres.
The Vice Speaker of the National Assembly expressed his condolences in connection with the disaster - the recent earthquake in Mexico, noting that the Armenian people are well aware of the pain of the Mexican people. The priorities of the foreign policy of the Republic of Armenia are touched upon at the meeting. Speaking about the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide, Sharmazanov noted: "Our struggle is for justice and prevention of genocides." We do not consider any people as enemies, including Turkish, but we believe that it is the Turkish people, first and foremost, who need to recognize the Armenian Genocide and face to face with their history, as the policy of denial and falsification can generate new genocides and disasters."
Sharmazanov said that next year marks the 70th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide adopted on December 9, 1948, so Armenia will launch new initiatives in this context.
Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Sharmazanov turned to the two resolutions passed by the previous Mexican parliament in 2011, noting that they were not only anti-Armenian, but also directly contradicted by the international community. "The UN issued a mandate to solve the problem to the co- chairmanship of the OSCE Minsk Group. In international structures we must take steps that do not contradict the assessments of the international community. This is a matter of human rights protection, and not a territorial dispute - the people of Artsakh has as many rights to independent life as a citizen a subject of the former USSR, "the vice-speaker of the National Assembly stressed.
The principle of implementation of the right of nations to self-determination was defended by the head of the deputy group of friendship Mexico-Armenia Blanca Margarita Kuata Dominguez and member of the delegation Carlos Hernandez Miron.
Dominguez expressed her confidence that their visit would give a new impetus to the development of the existing relations between the two countries, for which they, using the parliamentary platform, are ready to do everything possible. The guests were interested in Armenia's transition to the parliamentary system of governance, considered the RA as a gateway to the markets of the EAEU and other neighboring countries.
