ArmInfo. In the issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Israel, there are purely political problems. Such an opinion was expressed on September 15 at a press conference in Yerevan by former deputy, political scientist, co-chairman of the public international forum Israel-Armenia Alexander Tsinker, commenting on the possibility of achieving progress in recognizing the Armenian Genocide especially in the light of the visit of the Vice Speaker of the Knesset to Armenia.
According to him, the visit of the delegation headed by the Vice Speaker of the Knesset, the head of the Israel-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Tali Ploskov to Armenia is one more step in this direction. Tsinker noted that the delegation included such deputies who were for the first time in Armenia. "You understand the point, the problem is purely political. When we had good relations with Turkey and raised this issue, they said - why spoil good relations with Ankara. When relations deteriorated with Turkey and the issue of recognition of the Armenian Genocide started to rise again, they began to say again: we can not establish relations, and you also with this issue. You see, there must be a distinction between politics and historical truth. Then everything will fall into place. But I can say one thing, according to the polls conducted in Israel, the majority of the population supports the recognition of the Armenian Genocide," Tsinker said, and in this context added that the deputies are in any way the voice of the people, therefore, we should expect progress in this matter. He expressed hope that in the future this issue will receive its expected solution.
Tsinker also stressed that today it has already been possible to achieve that the Knesset Culture Commission has considered this issue. "The next step is the plenary sessions. I think there will be a "hot battle" here. The more frequent such visits of deputies, the easier it will be for us to promote this issue," concluded Tsinker.
The founder and head of the Institute for National Strategic Studies of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, co-chairman of the public forum "Armenia-Israel", Lieutenant-General Hayk Kotanjyan noted that he attended the meetings of the Israeli delegation in Armenia and can confidently say that at all meetings, at different levels, the sides stressed that there is progress in the issue of understanding the importance of Israel's recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
To note, last week in Yerevan a delegation of the Israeli Knesset headed by the vice-speaker was on a three-day visit. The delegation held a number of meetings at various levels, during which the sides discussed the possibilities for deepening bilateral cooperation.
