ArmInfo. CSTO , at the request of UN, is working on the formation of a special unit of the peacekeeping militia of constant readiness, which will participate in peacekeeping operations. Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Valeriy Semerikov informed.
"Now we are creating, at the request and at the request of the UN, a special police unit of constant readiness, which could participate in peacekeeping operations in UN missions, " Semerikov told RIA Novosti. He noted that employees in such units will recruit from representatives of law enforcement agencies of all states. "The structure (of such a unit) of the secretariat of the Security Council has already been considered, we will report to the presidents our proposals." All states have given good, we are creating this unit, a special peacekeeping unit of the law enforcement agencies of constant readiness, "Semerikov added.
He noted that UN recognized CSTO peacekeepers that meet their standards, and confirmed that they can participate in peacekeeping operations in the territory of third countries.
Collective Security Treaty Organization was established on the basis of an agreement signed on May 15, 1992 by the CIS member countries. Participants of CSTO are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan. Uzbekistan announced in late June 2012 that it is suspending its participation in the organization's activities.
