ArmInfo. Organization "Union against genocide" to continue struggle against denial of Genocide of Armenians in Ottoman Empire by Ankara. This was announced on April 25 in Yerevan by the activist of the organization "Union Against Genocide" (Verein der Volkermordgegner), operating in Germany, Elif Selay Ertem, who is a Turkish citizen.
"We come to Armenia every year on April 24 and honor the innocent victims of the Genocide. We consider it to be our duty, maybe a little bit late, but we promised ourselves to come here every year till our death and visit the memorial "Tsitsernakaberd" and share the sorrow of Armenian nation", Ertem said.
She also noted that the organization holds a protest in front of Turkish Embassy in Frankfurt every year, as this fact should be recognized by Turks firstly, they should find strength to face own history. "Our organization is established in 1998. We have 40 active members. Unfortunately we reached no serious results till now, however it should be understood that during 102 years, 4 generations of Turks were brough up in lie. I am confident that our efforts will have results, we were criticized toughly, they were insulting us, calling us non human." Ertem said.
In his turn, another activist Mahmud Uzun (alawit) arrived to Yerevan from Great Britain, noted that has already come to Armenia for the third time. "I feel at home here, everything in this city is not foreign to me. I was forced to flee to London from Turkey, where for a long time I was subjected to political persecution. I think that Turkey must confess to what was done and face its own history," Uzun said.
To note, the delegation of the Union against Genocide every year visits Yerevan on April 24 and pays tribute to the memory of innocent victims. Moreover, they collect donations every year, which they give to the Armenian Genocide Museum Institute. The organization includes representatives of different nationalities - Kurds, Turks, Zaza, Alawites and others.
