ArmInfo. The upcoming parliamentary elections are of fundamental importance for Armenia, and why not, for France, just as for the EU and the international community. French Ambassador to Armenia Jean-Francois Charpentier said this in an interview with Azatutyun, answering the question whether the Armenian-European relations will suffer if the elections in Armenia do not meet the expectations of Europe.
"It is of fundamental importance that voters are confident and go to the polls and vote as dictated by their soviets and conscience. That is why the European Union decided to contribute to this process and provided 7 million euros for the introduction of such mechanisms of confidence in the polling stations, as video cameras, identity devices that allow to exclude pressure on the voter. This is a substantial amount," the diplomat said.
According to him, in democracy, it is very important that a voter be able to exercise his / her free choice as far as possible for the candidate whom he deems fit. Charpantier noted that this is a mutual responsibility for political processes.
