After the disastrous earthquake in 1988, 30 years have already past. According to some sources, only Leninakan suffered 17000 casualties, 1200 in Vanadzor, 500 in Akhuryan, 120 in Stepanavan. 11 cities, 58 villages, 9 mln sq/m under living area were ruined. It was 18% of the total living area in the republic. By this years, it is possible that a lot was built but it is not correct to say that Gyumri is totally restored. Currently, the number one task is to clean Gyumri from lodges where a lot of families still live.
