ArmInfo. Tbilisi's intention to recover the Trade Corridors Agreement denying political problems had with Moscow inspires hopes for success of the initiative, Sergey Minasyan, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Caucasus shared his opinion with ArmInfo.
On February 8 Grigori Karasin, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia stated that there is one last and the most difficult step is left to make to open the new transit corridor through Georgia, accentuating that not only Russia and Georgia are interested in 2011 Agreements implementation, but Armenia as well.
"Particularly, the reason to hope for optimistic scenario is the intention of Georgian Government to implement this Agreement with Russia assuming the development of transport corridors with two countries despite existing political problems in respect to Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia," he accentuated. At that, the expert thinks that the main problem on the way of the 2011 Transport Corridors Agreement implementation is the level of Georgian opposition influence on official Tbilisi's will to work in this aspect.
According to him, parties decided to discuss those issues which could be solved without crossing the "red lines" - Abkhazia and South Ossetia statuses, as well as Russian troops presence there. This approach will allow parties to avoid the painful issue of customs registration of cargo at the border, as well as to launch vehicle road through Southern Ossetia, which is extremely important for Armenia, because the road leading to Upper Lars is being often closed due to weather conditions.
