ArmInfo. Member of Armenian delegation to PACE, Head of Prosperous Armenia Party Naira Zohrabyan demanded from PACE to convene special session to discuss Constitutional referendum held in Azerbaijan on September 26, the press service of Prosperous Armenia informs.
"I consider that we are obliged to discuss the issue of Constitutional referendum in Azerbaijan urgently as according to it in PACE member country sultan regime has been established. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has prolonged the term of presidency from 5 to 7 years, while the minimum age requirement has been reduced from 35 to 25 years, thus he has legalized transition of power to his son. Despite the fact that a number of Azerbaijani human rights defenders, Musavat party, US Department of State and a number of US congressmen called for the Constitutional court not to give positive decision on Aliyev's regular authoritarian decree a referendum was held on September 26 in Azerbaijan", Zohrabyan noted.
At the same time she expressed hope that the Assembly will also discuss unclear assessment by PACE observation mission, which ignoring OSCE and Venice Commission's opinions, stated that the voting was transparent and open.
"After evident breaches on referendum it has been stated that 91% of Azerbaijanis want to have a monarch. What happened in Azerbaijan on September 26 should be properly discussed in our organization. I demand to organize voting on the issue of discussion of developments in Azerbaijan", Zohrabyan summarized. To note PACE autumn session kicked off today and will last till October 14.
