ArmInfo. Confidentiality is crucial  for the organization to be able to regularly visit Armenian  prisoners in Baku, as stated by Zara Amatuni, Head of Communications  Programs at the Yerevan Office of the International Committee of the  Red Cross (ICRC), in an interview with journalists at a protest in  support of  former State Minister of Artsakh and philanthropist Ruben  Vardanyan, who is currently on a hunger strike, as well as other  Armenian prisoners  who are being held in Azerbaijani prisons and   subjected to torture.

ArmInfo. Against the backdrop of the trial of Armenian prisoners of war in Baku, the psychological and physical violence exerted on them, Azerbaijan has put the issue  of expelling the mission of the International Committee of the Red  Cross on the agenda. This was written on his Facebook page by Tigran  Abrahamyan, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of  Armenia from the opposition faction With Honor.

Almost three dozen non-governmental organizations have addressed an open letter to the  President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mirjana Spoljaric-Egger, calling for immediate intervention in the situation related to the former State Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Ruben Vardanyan and other Armenian prisoners illegally convicted for political reasons. ArmInfo. In February, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Armenians held in Azerbaijan again, whose names have been confirmed by the authorities of the country.  

ArmInfo. On February 24, within the framework of the working visit to Geneva, Foreign Minister of Armenian Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric  Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

ArmInfo. On February 7, a meeting was held on the Armenian- Azerbaijani border between the Interdepartmental Commission of Armenia on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons and the State Commission of Azerbaijan on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons. 

ArmInfo. Armenia expects that the International Committee of the Red Cross will continue to take all necessary measures in accordance with the norms of  international humanitarian law to ensure the safety of Armenian  prisoners of war and other detainees. This was stated by Deputy  Chairman of the RA National Assembly Committee on Human Rights and  Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan during a meeting with the ICRC  delegation headed by Daphne Marais.

ArmInfo. The National Security Council of Armenia has stopped dealing with the search for those missing during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War of 1991-1994. This was reported to journalists by the Chairperson of the Council of  Relatives of Missing Liberator Soldiers Rimma Arakelyan after a  closed discussion in the National Assembly of Armenia on the issue of  those missing as a result of military operations in the  Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. 

ArmInfo. In December 2024, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross  (ICRC) made another visit to persons of Armenian descent, notified by  the Azerbaijani side and being held captive by Azerbaijani  authorities.  According to Ilaha Huseynov, head of the public  relations department of the ICRC office in Azerbaijan, " the  detainees were met in private and were given a possibility to contact  their families." "In accordance with its mandate, the ICRC, during  visits, assesses the treatment and condition of detainees,  and  creates an opportunity to restore or continue contact with their  families. In line with ICRC procedures, observations and  recommendations related to visits are provided exclusively by the  detaining party," Huseynova said in a statement, as reported by APA.  

ArmInfo. In November, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) provided financial support to 96 households in the village of Kirants in the Tavush region of Armenia. Each household received AMD 130,000.

ArmInfo. Newly appointed head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Armenia Daphnee Maret presented copies of her credentials to Vahan  Kostanyan, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia.  As  reported by the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry,  during the meeting, Kostanyan expressed hope that the ICRC will  continue to actively participate in solving humanitarian issues in  Armenia and supporting vulnerable groups of the population.

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan met with Mirjana Spoljaric-Egger, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), as reported by the  Office of the President of the Republic of Armenia.  During the meeting, the parties addressed concerns regarding missing persons, prisoners and detainees, as well as other humanitarian issues. The Armenian President highlighted the significance of close  collaboration with the ICRC, noting the Committee's role in overcoming humanitarian crises and upholding international humanitarian rights.
