The Armenian Foreign Ministry has disseminated Armenian Ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan's comment on LDPR leader and Russian lawmaker Vladimir Zhirinovsky's recent remarks about Armenia.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry quotes Ambassador Yesayan as saying: "Political absurdity has always been typical to Mr. Zhirinovsky, and his unserious remarks on various issues are a vivid manifestation of it. In this regard, it would be unserious to take his remarks about Armenia seriously and especially to try to present them as Russia's official stand.
The regular bizarre comments of Zhirinovsky became the manifestation of his political survival, which aim to draw attention to his own persona, he notes. "This is especially visible in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Russia," Yesayan says.
"We have already expressed our view on the cynical remarks of the Russian State Duma eccentric member to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and we have received the relevant clarifications," he says.
To recall, Zhirinovsky has recently said on the radio that Yerevan will never turn its back to Russia, because otherwise it will be the end of Armenia. "Armenia is a small mountainous country among the mountains, sandwiched between Azerbaijan and Turkey and having neither economy nor any prospects. "There are only 1 million Armenians left there and there are only 6 million Armenians worldwide. They are wandering all over the world - Lebanon, Iran, Russia, France, the US, etc. There is no place to live in Armenia. There are only mountains there. Naturally, various groups will be emerging there, which will be harming each other," he said, adding that Russia can withdraw its military base from Armenia. "They will fall down at our feet to beg us to deploy the military base in Armenia again. That base is their salvation, otherwise, Turks and Azerbaijanis will make mincemeat of Armenia," the Russian MP said, noting that in that case Azerbaijan will immediately seize Karabakh and Turks will help them.
