ArmInfo. After 2020, Armenia and the Armenian people found themselves in a new reality: the old security system was destroyed, and a new architecture has still not been formed, as stated by Ara Ayvazyan, former Foreign Minister of Armenia, on April 9 during the presentation of the Prosperous Armenia Party's "Armenia's Proposal" program.
According to him, at this stage, one of the most important tasks should have been restoring stability, but the current government has chosen the path of opportunism under pressure, which is a grave and serious mistake. Ayvazyan noted that Armenia must develop effective security mechanisms with Russia and maintain membership in the CSTO and the EAEU. The diplomat pointed out that state security must include three components: a balance of power, deterrence, and guarantees. Without a restoration of power, long-term peace cannot be expected.
The speaker emphasized that the current situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border can hardly be called long-term peace, as Armenia's vulnerability has not disappeared. Moreover, many security-related decisions are currently being made outside of the country. Against this backdrop, it is necessary to establish a real balance of power with the help of allies, which will prevent pressure on the country.
