ArmInfo. Through consistent steps, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has turned the country into a geopolitical conflict zone. This was the message delivered by Samvel Karapetyan, chairman of the Strong Armenia party, regarding the results of the Armenian prime minister's visit to Moscow and subsequent statements from the Russian side. The statement was posted on Karapetyan's Facebook page.
According to Karapetyan, the actions of the Armenian authorities have led to the Armenian people now facing a choice: the economic war unleashed with Russia in July due to Pashinyan's policies, or the changes their political force intends to implement in the country in June after the parliamentary elections. "Frankly, I am outraged by the behavior of the leader of this small group. It was a disgrace in Moscow. But what's worse, with consistent steps he has turned our country into a zone of geopolitical conflict. Why was it necessary to try to oust friendly Russia from our region? Its presence has never hindered Armenia's cooperation and trade with other centers of power. And I am confident that it will not hinder this in the future," Karapetyan emphasized.
The chairman of "Strong Armenia" recalled that today Armenia's deepest economic ties are with Russia. In particular, as Karapetyan noted, Russia supplies Armenia with cheap gas, happily accepts seasonal workers, and purchases a significant portion of Armenian agricultural produce. "But if all this stops, what answer will you give to our people, who will become even poorer? The current prime minister doesn't care about the fate of our compatriots, the contents of their refrigerators and pockets. What matters is that, by intimidating us with false wars, he wants to retain power for his own well-being. But he certainly won't stay in power. We will eliminate this small group and make friends with all the countries in the region, with all the centers of power," Karapetyan emphasized.
In this regard, he called on the Armenian people to remember what happened to Georgia and Ukraine, emphasizing that Armenia does not need new wars. "By voting for Pashinyan in the upcoming elections, you will get poverty and hostility with the Russians, polarization and economic collapse. Trust us, and we will achieve real change: a strong economy, unity, and lasting peace. The time has come for a strong Armenia," the party chairman concluded.
As a reminder, Putin and Pashinyan held talks in Moscow on April 1. The meeting took place in a rather tense atmosphere, with the parties exchanging mutual accusations. The Russian President emphasized the impossibility of Armenia simultaneously being a member of both the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union. The Russian side, through Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, made it clear that Armenia's accession to the EU would lead to the cessation of air travel between the two countries, as well as a severance of economic relations between Moscow and Yerevan.
