ArmInfo. Armenia's Human Rights Defender, Anahit Manasyan, has issued an angry tirade in response to ordinary citizens attempting to draw her attention to the situation surrounding schoolboy David Minasyan. Minasyan was arrested for two months following an incident involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at St. Anna Church.
Manasyan expressed outrage that in recent days, a number of users have been posting and mentioning the Human Rights Defender's Facebook page regarding David Minasyan's case. She expressed her belief that this is being done because these individuals are simply "unaware of the Human Rights Defender's powers" and that such actions are allegedly an attempt to spread "slanderous information about her activities." She then recalled her visit to the schoolboy at the Armavir penal institution and reiterated the Ombudsman's office's previously issued statement on the situation, although the wording was vague.
Manasyan also assured that she could not influence the court's decision, as it is prohibited by the Constitutional Law "On the Human Rights Defender."
"However, taking into account the information regarding the individual's health status, as well as issues related to ensuring the continuity of his education, additional correspondence was conducted on the morning of April 3, at the direction of the Human Rights Defender, to discuss the possibility of applying an alternative preventive measure to the individual," Manasyan's statement continued. Furthermore, she stated that, at her direction, a representative of the Ombudsman's office discussed issues related to David Minasyan's health daily with authorized representatives of medical institutions.
"Therefore, we strongly urge you to refrain from disseminating false, defamatory, and unfounded statements about the institution of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, as well as from any attempts to interfere with the institution's activities," Manasyan's four-page tirade states.
