ArmInfo.Georgia firmly supports peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new initiatives in the South Caucasus, as stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at a joint briefing with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Georgian prime minister said that at the meeting with Aliyev, issues related to both bilateral relations and the future of the entire South Caucasus region were discussed in detail.
The head of the Georgian government pointed to the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. "In this context, we once again welcome the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Georgia firmly supports peaceful coexistence, constructive cooperation, and new initiatives in the region. We are always ready to make a positive contribution to the development of these relations, if necessary. We are ready to facilitate dialogue and the peace process. Collaboration between our countries in the South Caucasus creates new prospects for the entire region," Kobakhidze said. At the same time, he noted the ongoing global political changes, noting that they further r enhance the importance of the Middle Corridor, including the Black Sea and the South Caucasus, as a strategic space.
"Our countries, as bridges connecting Asia and Europe, play a key role in terms of connectivity, and in this context, we attach particular importance to the development and modernization of transport and logistics infrastructure. Georgia and Azerbaijan have repeatedly proven themselves to be reliable and responsible partners, including in international energy and transport projects," the Georgian Prime Minister said, according to Channel One Georgia.
In turn, Aliyev stated that the countries of the South Caucasus must remain focused on peace, stability, and security. According to him, these principles are being violated in various parts of the world, but in the South Caucasus they must remain unshakable; there must be no losses, and such events must not affect the region. Aliyev assured that the South Caucasus must remain a region of peace, stability, and cooperation.
He also thanked the Georgian Prime Minister and the government for their contribution to establishing peace in the region. "In the South Caucasus, we must position ourselves as a region of peace, stability, and cooperation. Today, I would like to emphasize that Georgia plays an extremely important role," he said.
The Azerbaijani leader also stated, within the framework of the peace process between Baku and Yerevan, that the agreements signed are not enough, as every step in the future must be strengthened and contribute to strengthening peace. "These meetings and visits serve precisely this purpose. We have begun interaction with Armenia through Georgia, and I am grateful to the Georgian government for its assistance," Aliyev noted.
