ArmInfo. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) needs to be extremely careful and tactful in its work with Armenia, as stated by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov on April 6, BELTA reports.
Lukasjenko pointed out that, despite some achievements, the CSTO also has problematic issues, which he has openly addressed on numerous occasions, including at international meetings and events. The Belarusian president named relations with Armenia as one of these issues requiring special attention. "We need to be more tactful and careful in our dealings with Armenia. You know, Armenia appears to be unsupportive of the CSTO, yet it remains a member. We need to be very tactful. Armenia is in a difficult situation in this regard, especially during the electoral period. It's a very delicate situation. Therefore, we need to be very careful and cautious in our relations with Armenia," the Belarusian leader said.
Recall, Armenia has been boycotting CSTO events since late 2022. In February 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia had effectively frozen its participation in the CSTO, as the organization had failed to fulfill its obligations to Armenia, which could not go without consequences. During the Second Pan-Armenian Summit on September 18, 2024, Pashinyan declared that the CSTO posed threats to Armenia's security, its further existence, sovereignty, and statehood.
