ArmInfo. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia suggests introducing a unified system for evaluating the professional performance of police officers. At its April 6 meeting, the NA Committee on Defense and Security approved amendments to the Law "On Police Service" and related documents submitted by the Armenian government.
Presenting the amendments, RA Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan noted that the evaluation system should be conducted annually based on objective and measurable indicators. According to Sargsyan, this will enable a quicker assessment of the quality and effectiveness of police officers' work, allowing for prompt respond to existing issues, and facilitating the continuous and periodic improvement of knowledge, skills, and abilities based on target needs identified through professional performance assessments. Moreover, police officer certification will be linked to the professional performance assessment system, ensuring ongoing competitiveness.
It is expected that the adoption of these bills will introduce a more objective and effective system for assessing the effectiveness and quality of police officers. This will involve continuous monitoring of police work effectiveness and quality, which will inform decisions based on the assessment results. Additionally, it will allow for the prompt identification of educational needs and, based on these, the targeted development and improvement of knowledge, skills, and abilities through revised professional development programs.
