ArmInfo. The Armenian government will allocate an additional 4.3 billion drams to complete the construction of seismically resistant schools. The decision was made at a Cabinet meeting on April 2.
As noted in the justification for the draft decision, the loan program has been implemented with the support of the Asian Development Bank since 2015.
The project involves the reconstruction/construction of new school buildings that are on the list of schools with the highest seismic hazards. The project is being implemented through two loan agreements (the main financing agreement was signed in 2015, and the supplementary financing agreement will be signed in 2023) and co-financing from the RA state budget. The project includes the construction/reconstruction of 46 schools. As part of the program, large-scale construction work has already been completed at 28 schools, including 10 in Yerevan, 3 in Aragatsotn, 3 in Ararat, 2 in Armavir, 1 in Gegharkunik, 3 in Lori, 2 in Kotayk, 1 in Shirak, 1 in Syunik, 1 in Vayots Dzor, and 1 in Tavush. Construction work at the remaining 18 schools is currently in the active implementation phase and is expected to be completed in 2026-2027.
