
ArmInfo. Armen Rustamyan, head of the Armenia-Belgium Parliamentary Friendship Group, and group members Shirak Torosyan, Alexey Sandykov, and Hripsime Hunanyan held a meeting with representatives of the Belgium-Armenia Friendship Group on March 30.
As reported by the press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, welcoming the guests, Armen Rustamyan noted that over the past five years, the Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group has had numerous opportunities to discuss issues of mutual interest. He said this is a good opportunity to summarize the work done with friends.
Touching on regional developments, Armen Rustamyan spoke about relations with neighboring Azerbaijan and the ongoing peace process. He believes that a stable and irreversible peace can be achieved if all existing issues are resolved. During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon a range of issues related to the strong ties between Armenia and Belgium, interparliamentary relations, the signed agreement "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan," the rights of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh and the possibility of their return, the release of persons detained in Baku, the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, and constitutional amendments.
Els Van Hoff, Head of the Belgium-Armenia Friendship Group in the Belgian Parliament, in turn, highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries, noting the importance of parliamentary cooperation. "The friendship between Armenia and Belgium is based on common and shared values: democracy, the rule of law, peace, and stability. These values are our shared values, and they are the subject of numerous discussions in the Belgian parliament, including on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict," he said, adding that over the past five years, the Belgian parliament has adopted four resolutions concerning Armenia.
Shirak Torosyan, in turn, presented his official position on the issues under discussion to his European colleagues, emphasizing the importance of a process aimed at a stable and irreversible peace.
