ArmInfo. The upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia will be unprecedented in terms of their results, as stated by Aram Sargsyan, Chairman of Democratic Party, at a press conference on March 27.
According to him, the elections will determine the country's future: will a new national program be formulated to lead the country out of the current dire situation, or will the Armenian people face new trials if the current ruling group retains power. "We also understand what's happening in the opposition field and want to remind you once again that the person who calls himself the most legitimate leader wants to remove the provisions of the Declaration of Independence from the RA Constitution, thereby burning the birth certificate of the Armenian state. For us, this means crossing a 'red line' that we no longer have the right to cross," Aram Sargsyan said, adding that Armenia has no future with its current rulers.
The politician called on opposition forces to unite, noting that targeted attacks against each other are one of the biggest mistakes. The fragmentation of opposition forces in the elections, according to Aram Sargsyan, merely signifies an attempt to gain a "place in the sun." Understanding that no one will receive 50% or more of the vote, the opposition must recognize the need to form a coalition following the elections. However, as the DPA leader noted, opposition forces, if they oppose the current government, must refrain from targeting each other. To this end, the Democratic Party and the "Together" movement call on opposition forces to sign a corresponding memorandum.
