ArmInfo. Peace in Armenia belongs to the people, as stated by Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the ruling "Civil Contract" party, at a briefing in the National Assembly on March 2. He was commenting on the assertion of second President Robert Kocharyan that peace for the Armenian people must be guaranteed by the international community.
According to Hovhannisyan, Robert Kocharyan has nothing in common with the Armenian people. Currently, peace has been established in the country, which must be constantly strengthened. "We will continue to do this together with our people. Robert Kocharyan can interpret this as he pleases, because he has no organic or natural connection to our people. This is evidenced by the path he has traveled, his actions and decisions, and the events that occurred during his presidency, including those of October 27, 1999, March 1, 2008, the murder of Poghos Poghosyan, the election fraud, and the beatings of people in the streets after each election. So Robert Kocharyan should keep quiet and stay out of the spotlight," the ruling party MP emphasized.
When asked about the authorities' response to the families of missing servicemen, who had demanded the publication of a report on the 44-day war prepared by the National Assembly commission investigating its circumstances the day before, Hovhannisyan noted that there is ongoing communication with the parents of the missing servicemen. "We maintain regular contact with them I believe that in this regard, we are doing everything possible to show our concern," Hovhannisyan stated.
As for the report itself, the parliamentarian noted that the question of whether or not to publish the special report is strictly a legal matter and cannot be decided based on political expediency. "The decision to publish this report must be made solely within the framework of legal procedures. Therefore, it cannot be published for any political expediency," Hovhannisyan said.
