ArmInfo. The UN General Assembly adopted a draft resolution that unequivocally condemns the trade in enslaved Africans and the transatlantic slave trade as the most inhumane and enduring injustice against humanity. Armenia abstained from voting.
According to the UN's published vote, 123 states supported the resolution, including Armenia's neighbors Azerbaijan, Iran, and Turkey, as well as its ally Russia.
Only the United States, Israel, and Argentina voted against the resolution.
However, 52 UN states abstained, including Armenia and Georgia and the vast majority of European states. The resolution, among other things, seeks to acknowledge the profound and long-lasting consequences of slavery and colonialism and emphasizes that demands for reparations represent a concrete step towards correcting historical injustices against Africans and people of African descent.
