ArmInfo. Starting January 1, 2027, the sale of single-use plastic bags, as well as their use in retail and catering establishments, will be banned in Armenia. The corresponding amendments to the Law on Trade and Services and several related laws were adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia in their second and final reading on March 25.
The package also proposes extending the ban to mobile vending machines, fairs, and retail outlets. Exceptions will be made for bags used for weighing and packaging goods, as well as garbage bags made from recycled materials. The ban will also apply to plastic bags with a density greater than 50 microns. Reusable paper and fabric bags are being considered as alternatives. The amendments also ban the sale and use of disposable plastic and polystyrene foam containers and utensils in the specified facilities.
Business entities violating the bans will be subject to administrative penalties: a warning for the first offense, and a fine of 100,000 to 150,000 drams for repeat offenses.
