Samvel Karapetyan could have chosen to step away from politics, but  he decided to fight for his values - Narek Karapetyan

Narek Karapetyan, a board member of the Strong Armenia party, told American businessman and blogger Mario Naufal that his uncle, party leader and prominent businessman Samvel Karapetyan, could have chosen to step away from politics, which would have likely led to the authorities leaving him alone. However, he decided to stay and fight for his values to prevent the country from turning into Azerbaijan.

"We (the Karapetyan family - ed.) are confident in our values, we  defend them. People support us, so we don't feel the consequences of  political repression," he said. When Naufal asked whether Samvel  Karapetyan would be released and left in peace if he chose to step  away from politics, Narek Karapetyan replied, "Yes, but he declined.  We don't want an authoritarian regime akin to the one in Azerbaijan.   Pashinyan is consolidating power in his hands, like any communist  leader, although he certainly doesn't have communist views. His party  controls the energy sector and the postal service. Nothing like this  has ever happened in the history of our country."
