ArmInfo. In the parliamentary elections on June 7, 2026, the people of Armenia will have to choose between peace and possible war, as stated by RA Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan when speaking to reporters on March 24.
The thesis that without the ruling Civil Contract party and its leader Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia would face war, was put forward earlier by Prime Minister Pashinyan. Specifically, at the latest government briefing, he stated that "some forces are preparing a new [September war] with grave consequences." "The party of war is becoming increasingly obvious with each passing day, because these parties and their circles claim they are not against peace, but soon begin to say that if they come to power, they will reconsider the peace agreements. I want to say it bluntly, without any softening: this leads to war - with the loss of not only territory, but also Armenia's sovereignty," Pashinyan emphasized at the time.
"I understand that the forces now in this hall, the forces that want to get into parliament, need a war; they need talks about war so they can build something political out of it. But now there is no war, there is peace," Simonyan stated today. He emphasized that for two years now, no soldier has been killed or wounded in shooting on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
"Is it war or peace now? Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan have never traded, and the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia have never discussed peace," he noted, warning that this peace must not be lost. "The current government of the Republic of Armenia, the Civil Contract, is a party of peace, while the rest, the main opposition players, are parties of war. That's the reality. If people say they should put forward demands, that's called war. Yes, there is a party of war and a party of peace. And yes, the 2026 elections will be about peace and the possibility of war," the Speaker of the National Assembly emphasized.
