


ArmInfo. Armenian authorities are planning to close the Nubarashen Penitentiary.
According to RA Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan, the facility must be closed as soon as possible, but the final timeline will depend on securing significant financial resources. Negotiations are currently underway with a private company to finalize cost estimates. At a minimum, this could involves major renovations, and at a maximum, the complete decommissioning of the site. This issue should be resolved within the next two years. A decision will be made documented in the very near future. The minister noted that the construction of a new penitentiary building for 1,000 inmates is currently under discussion, with 700 to be transferred from Nubarashen. Additionally, plans for creating of penitentiary facilities with both open and closed detention regimes are being considered.
