ArmInfo. A prisoner born in 1995 has escaped from the Vardashen Penitentiary (PCI) of the Armenian Ministry of Justice.
Law enforcement officials have been searching for him for two days.
According to the penitentiary's press service, the prisoner's disappearance was discovered on March 22 at approximately 7:10 a.m. by staff at Vardashen Prison. According to the source, the inmate was serving his sentence in a low-security zone, where conditions are more lenient, and, according to current regulations, he was being held without guards in these conditions.
"A report of the incident was forwarded to the police of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs, and operational search operations have been launched," the penitentiary concluded.
It should be noted that various incidents have been occurring regularly in Armenian prisons recently. Due to poor conditions, prisoners go on hunger strikes or commit suicide. Sometimes they die due to a lack of timely medical care. Furthermore, there have been cases of people with illnesses incompatible with imprisonment being imprisoned. However, despite this issue being regularly raised by human rights activists, journalists, and opposition members of parliament, the Armenian authorities are taking no measures to rectify this situation.
