ArmInfo. Turkologist Varuzhan Geghamyan responded to yesterday's incident in the Yerevan Metro, where an argument broke out between RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and a passenger.
The altercation occurred when, as Pashinyan was entering the metro, the woman accused him of surrendering Nagorno-Karabakh. The woman asked the politician not to raise his voice, but he replied that he would "talk like that." The prime minister later apologized to the woman. On his Facebook page, he wrote: "Dear Mrs. Mosiyan, I apologize to you and your son for those emotions and hope that there will be an opportunity to meet again in the metro or somewhere else and have a calm conversation. I would like this conversation to take place." Pashinyan added that he said some of his remarks "with the wrong gestures, tone, and facial expression."
"In a normal, truly democratic state, a politician's apology doesn't involve posts and live broadcasts, but only one thing: resignation and cessation of political activity. This doesn't exist, so apologies have no political value," Varuzhan Geghamyan noted.
He added that an apology should be sought not from one person, but from all Armenians for abandoning their dream and cherished homeland, Artsakh, and, worse, for constantly denying it. "And denial is present even in apologies. One clear proof of this is that the de facto ruling group hasn't even used the word 'Artsakh' for several years. And they apologize for accidentally saying 'Artsakh,' but not from us," the Turkologist emphasized.
