ArmInfo. Constitutional Court judges of Armenia will receive additional remuneration. At its March 18 session, the National Assembly Committee on State and Legal Affairs approved amendments to the laws "On Remuneration of Persons Holding State Positions and Civil Service Positions" and "On the Constitutional Court," submitted by the RA government.
According to RA Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan, the amendments provide for additional payments to Constitutional Court judges based on their length of service, as well as a revision of their remuneration structure. The current remuneration system for Constitutional Court judges does not correspond to their constitutional status, scope of authority, and level of responsibility, necessitating additional financial guarantees to ensure their independence and the sustainability of the institution. The draft legislation proposes introducing a differentiated system of additional payments based on length of service as a Constitutional Court judge. Specifically, the following bonuses to the basic salary are provided: 20% from the second year of office, 35% from the third year, and an annual increase of another 10% (45%, 55%, 65%, etc.) beginning in the fourth year. The bonus will be calculated for no more than 11 years of service, given that the term of office for a Constitutional Court judge is 12 years. The calculation will be based on the actual length of service at the time the law comes into force. These additional payments are intended to strengthen the material and social independence of judges, reduce the risk of external pressure, and ensure the stable operation of the constitutional justice body. The level of remuneration directly influences the size of judges' future pensions, which is seen as an important guarantee of their independence.
It should be noted that additional funding of 46.7 million drams is allocated for the implementation of the changes in 2026, including 7.7 million drams for the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, 5.7 million drams for the Deputy Chairman, and 33.1 million drams for seven judges.
