ArmInfo. Armenian authorities intend to improve the Criminal Procedure Code, which entered into force on July 1, 2022. At its March 18 session, the RA National Assembly Committee on State and Legal Affairs issued a positive opinion on amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code submitted by Rustat Bakoyan, a member of parliament from the ruling Civil Contract faction.
Introducing the legislative initiative, Bakoyan noted that the primary focus is on the timeframe for the supervising prosecutor to consider an investigator's motion not to initiate or terminate criminal prosecution. Based on this motion, the prosecutor decides whether to grant or reject it, but there is no timeframe for the supervising prosecutor's decisions. The proposed timeframe is now set at seven days. This measure is necessary to ensure that a person subject to public criminal prosecution cannot remain in this status for an unjustifiably long period of time.
