ArmInfo. Healthy Eating Week, organized as part of events dedicated to International School Meals Day, concluded at Ghevond Alishan Primary School No. 27 in Vanadzor.
According to the press service of the RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport, the interactive event, titled "Healthy City," was attended by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport Araksya Svadjyan, Deputy Governor of the Lori Region Arsen Gharibyan, Director of the UN WFP Office in Armenia Leila Meliou, UN Resident Coordinator Francoise Jacob, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin, as well as representatives of the schools participating in the program. The event also included a school meal tasting, during which guests learned about school meal recipes and sampled dishes prepared from the school menu with the children.
The Deputy Minister expressed hope that during Healthy Eating Week, children learned the importance of proper and healthy eating. "The School Meals program implemented in our country is considered exemplary because it has an agricultural component, which distinguishes it from programs implemented in many other countries. This component gives us the opportunity to create new infrastructure in schools," said Araksiya Svadjyan, adding that in the next phase, schoolchildren from Yerevan will also be included in the school meals program.
During Healthy Eating Week, thematic classes, interactive games, and practical exercises on healthy eating were held in schools. As a reminder, Russia continues to actively fund school meals in Armenia, launching the program's fifth phase (2025-2030) in 2025. The total support for 2024-2028 exceeds $25 million, providing high-quality meals to over 100,000 schoolchildren. The program aims to create a sustainable national system.
