ArmInfo. The representatives of the Supreme Spiritual Council (SSC) have been summoned for questioning as witnesses by the Investigative Committee (IC) of Armenia. Lawyer Ruben Melikyan announced this during a live broadcast on his Facebook page.
He noted that, he, as a lawyer, he had participated in two interrogations. "And I saw other Council members being questioned as well. So, I believe this is not just two SSC representatives," Melikyan said.
He also noted that their interrogation coincided with a scheduled meeting of the Supreme Spiritual Council. Therefore, the lawyer expressed his conviction that this is yet another interference in the internal affairs of the Mother See of Etchmiadzin. "There was no urgency in summoning them at this particular time. Thus, they (the authorities - ed.) continue to interfere in the affairs of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) and implement unlawful policies against the Church. These interrogations are yet another manifestation of this policy, violating the Constitution of Armenia, which prohibits such interference," Melikyan stated.
He also said that the Council representatives were summoned in connection with the same case in which Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II and six other bishops, who are members of the Supreme Spiritual Council, are facing accusations.
