ArmInfo. In Strasbourg, near the administrative building of the European Parliament, the unveiling of the monument "Armenian Alphabet" took place in the presence of RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
According to the government's press service, the statue "The Root - The Power of Dialogue," was erected by the Republic of Armenia as a token of gratitude for the European Parliament's continued and unconditional support for Armenia. The sculpture consists of the letters of the Armenian alphabet.
Roberta Metsola noted that dialogue is the cornerstone of democracy; it unites everyone and moves us forward. "Ultimately, this is what the European Parliament is all about-building dialogue with each other, with citizens, and with the world around us. And with this beautiful work, this depiction of the Armenian alphabet, the Armenian language strengthens its place in the rich and diverse dialogue called Europe," said Roberta Metsola, quoting Armenian poet Silva Kaputikyan: "Wherever you are, wherever you go under this moon, do not forget your mother tongue."
In turn, Prime Minister Pashinyan noted that the Armenian alphabet was invented in the 5th century and is one of the most important pillars of Armenian identity. "And it is very symbolic that this sculpture will highlight the important connection between Armenian and European identities. I believe that speech, knowledge, and text are among the most important and powerful symbols of democracy, because it is impossible to have democracy without text, without communication, without writing, without speeches, without laws," the RA Prime Minister said.
