ArmInfo.Armenia has neither the intention nor the reason to delay the implementation of the TRIPP project, which fully aligns with Armenia's short, medium, and long- term interests, as stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
He noted that full peace has been established on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border for the past eight months. " The year 2025 became, for the first time since our independence, that is, since 1991, a year when there have been no casualties or injuries as a result of Armenian-Azerbaijani shootings. Residents of the border areas have not heard the sound of gunfire for several months now. Moreover, for the first time since independence, in November 2025, a train arrived to Armenia through Azerbaijan, also passing through Georgia. This occurred after the President of Azerbaijan announced in October 2025 that restrictions on rail travel through Azerbaijan to Armenia would be lifted, and I am grateful to the President of Azerbaijan for this decision. We, for our part, stated that we are ready to ensure transit from Azerbaijan to Turkey and vice versa, using our existing roads. Neither Azerbaijan nor Turkey has yet taken advantage of this opportunity.
I suppose this is also due to their belief that such a decision could delay the implementation of the TRIPP project. "From this podium, I officially declare that Armenia has neither the intention, nor the reason for to delay the TRIPP project, as the project fully meets the short, medium, and long-term interests of the Republic of Armenia and in no way undermines its sovereignty, territorial integrity, or jurisdiction," he said.
He also noted that the Republic of Armenia is ready to provide road connectivity between the western regions of Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic using existing infrastructure via the Kornidzor-Goris-Yeghegnadzor-Yeraskh route. He added that this proposal is in no way aimed at delaying or disrupting the Washington agreements.
"I say this officially. We are making these proposals because, as I mentioned above, we are already using the Azerbaijani railway in a slightly different way. Just as Azerbaijan is looking forward to establishing a rail connectivity with Nakhichevan through Armenia, we are also looking forward to establishing a railway connection between the south and north of Armenia through Nakhichevan. This railway route has no alternative for Armenia - Armenia's mountainous terrain prevents any other way to build a railway between the south and north of the country. As you can see, the expectations of Armenia and Azerbaijan don't conflict," he said.
The Armenian prime minister noted that Yerevan intends to use the Georgian-Azerbaijani railway for export purposes as well. "I hope that in the near future, Azerbaijan will also become an export destination for Armenia. Armenia already imports petroleum products from Azerbaijan, which has helped reduce prices in our market and broken decades-long monopolies in the fuel market. I would also like to thank the Prime Minister of Georgia for supporting the railway connection between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the peace process in general," Nikol Pashinyan noted.
