ArmInfo. The conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate, directly or indirectly affecting the interests of an increasing number of states and their civilians.
This is evident, in particular, in the fact that foreign diplomatic missions and consular offices in the region are also coming under attack. Their number is growing. This is stated in a commentary by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova regarding the developments surrounding Iran. "On March 8, in the Iranian city of Isfahan, the Russian Consulate General was damaged as a result of an attack on the nearby governor's office of the province of the same name. Windows in the office building and residential apartments were shattered, and several employees were thrown back by the blast wave. Fortunately, there were no casualties or serious injuries. We consider attacks on diplomatic and consular missions a flagrant violation of such fundamental documents of international law as the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations," Zakharova said in a statement.
She also demanded that all parties strictly respect the inviolability of diplomatic facilities and refrain from infringing on the safety, life, and health of their personnel. The Russian diplomat also called on the parties to the conflict to immediately end the military confrontation and return to the negotiating table.
As a reminder, on the morning of February 28, the United States and Israel attacked Iran. In response, Iran launched strikes against American bases in the Middle East. As a result of American-Israeli aggression, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking Iranian military officials were killed. On March 8, the Iranian Assembly of Experts elected Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Seyyed Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
