ArmInfo. US President Donald Trump called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss a number of critical issues related to the current development of the international situation. This was reported by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, who summarized the conversation between Putin and Trump.
He stated that the conversation between the Russian and US presidents took place on the evening of March 9. "The emphasis, naturally, was on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and the ongoing trilateral negotiations on a Ukrainian settlement with the participation of US representatives. I must say right away that the conversation was businesslike, frank, and constructive, as is usually the case in dialogue between Russian and American leaders. They haven't spoken on the phone in a long time; the last time was at the end of December 2025. And today's conversation, incidentally, lasted about an hour. The US President noted that, as previously agreed, such communication should, of course, take place on a regular basis, and both leaders expressed their readiness for this," Ushakov said.
According to him, the Russian President expressed a number of considerations aimed at a speedy political and diplomatic resolution of the Iranian conflict, including taking into account contacts held with the leaders of the Persian Gulf states, with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and the leaders of several other countries. Ushakov added that the US President, in turn, gave his assessment of the developments in the context of the ongoing American-Israeli operation. "I would like to note that a very substantive and, I believe, useful exchange of views took place on this matter. Trump reiterated his interest in seeing the conflict in Ukraine end with a swift ceasefire to achieve a long-term settlement.
We have expressed a positive assessment of the mediation efforts being undertaken by Donald Trump's team and himself," Putin's aide continued, emphasizing that the discussion included an assessment of the current situation along the line of contact, where Russian troops are advancing quite successfully. "This, as noted, is a factor that should finally encourage the regime in Kyiv to take the path toward a negotiated settlement of the conflict.
The presidents also touched on the issue of Venezuela, primarily in terms of the state of affairs on the global oil market.
Overall, I repeat, the conversation was very informative and will undoubtedly have practical significance for the two countries' future work in various areas of international politics," Ushakov concluded.
