


ArmInfo.The 69th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the primary and most prestigious international event on drug issues, opened under the chairmanship of Andranik Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the International Organizations in Vienna.
According to the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, over 2,000 delegates from approximately 130 member states and over 100 international, regional, and non-governmental organizations are participating in a five-day session.
During the session, the global drug issues, policies aimed at addressing it, and global cooperation will be discussed. Also, important regulatory decisions related to this area will be adopted. The Commission will discuss five draft resolutions aimed at promoting efforts to improve early prevention and control mechanisms for synthetic drugs and precursors, prevent the illicit exploitation of equipment and supply chains for their production and distribution, and strengthen public health responses and alternative development programs.
The Commission will also consider the World Health Organization's recommendations on the inclusion of new substances in the international drug control conventions. The session also plans to finalize the formation of a new interdisciplinary expert group, which will assist the Commission in the review process of the conventions' implementation.
Approximately 170 events and 24 exhibitions will be organized during the session. Armenia is a member of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs for the first time since 2024. Armenia will chair the Commission for 2026.
