ArmInfo. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has issued an urgent warning regarding sophisticated financial scams proliferating on social media. Fraudulent groups are posing as reputable investment firms to siphon funds from unsuspecting citizens.
According to the investigative body, criminals use a multi-step "phishing" funnel to gain access to bank accounts: high-yield investment ads appear on platforms like Facebook and Telegram, users click a link and provide personal contact details, scammers reach out via WhatsApp or Telegram, directing victims to fake, professional-looking websites that mimic international investment platforms and victims are asked to "top up" their accounts. When they enter their credit card or banking credentials on these fake sites, the criminals immediately drain the funds.
"The Investigative Committee strongly urges citizens to refrain from taking the proposed actions if they receive such advertisements or messages, and to report them to law enforcement agencies," the agency's statement reads.
