ArmInfo. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez openly opposed the US military campaign in Iran, recalling the catastrophic mistakes of the past.
He emphasized that 23 years ago, Europe was dragged into a war in Iraq under the pretext of defending democracy, which ultimately resulted not in peace but in an unprecedented refugee crisis, rising terrorism, and economic shock. According to Sánchez, a repeat of such a scenario is unacceptable today.
The main reason for allies' mistrust of the Trump administration's actions lies in the historical precedent of Colin Powell's "test tube" at the UN Security Council. Back then, Washington used false evidence of Baghdad's possession of weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion.
The White House's current "horror stories" are perceived through the prism of that lie: experience has shown that such interventions only end in the destruction of states and an endless war of "all against all."
