ArmInfo. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared full control of the Strait of Hormuz and that any vessels attempting to transit it risk being hit by missiles or drones.
"The Strait of Hormuz is currently under the full control of the Islamic Republic's navy," IRGC Navy spokesman Mohammad Akbarzadeh said in a statement published by the Fars news agency.
US President Donald Trump said yesterday that the US Navy is ready to escort oil tankers through this vital shipping route in the Persian Gulf.
The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world's most important maritime trade routes and a key oil transit route. Approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies pass through it. (INTERFAX)
