ArmInfo. The measure of restraint for Vahagn Chakhalyan, leader of the opposition movement "Kamk" (Will), has been changed. He will be placed under house arrest starting March 4, when his pretrial detention period expires. Chakhalyan is accused of "preparing a terrorist attack and usurping power" in the "Sacred Struggle" case.
The prosecutor requested an extension of the pretrial detention, but noted that if the defense presents circumstances acceptable to the court to consider a change, the prosecution will not object. Judge Karen Farkhoyan reviewed the documents presented and concluded that the immediate risks associated with his release had diminished, though not enough to warrant release.
He ordered to change the measure of restraint to house arrest for a period of three months, effective March 4. Considering the defendant's financial situation, the court decided against imposing a monetary bail. The decision may be appealed.
