The General Assembly resumed its 11th emergency special session on Ukraine - four years to the day since the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of its neighbour - adopting a resolution that calls for an immediate, full and unconditional ceasefire. The measure passed by a recorded vote of 107 in favour, to 12 against, with 51 abstentions. Ukraine and European delegates condemned attacks on civilians, and the Russian Federation, among others, warned the move could jeopardize US-facilitated peace talks.
The vote underscores the stark global divides as civilian casualties mount and diplomacy intensifies. The United States and China abstained from the vote.
Turkiye and Georgia supported the resolution, Iran voted against the document, Armenia abstained, and Azerbaijan did not participate in the vote at all.
