ArmInfo. In Moscow, as part of the DIALOGUE Book Series, Knizhny Mir Publishing House has published a collection of short stories and novellas by Ashot Beglaryan, "In the Womb of War." This is the thirteenth book by the renowned Stepanakert writer and journalist, winner of several international competitions.
This is Ashot Beglaryan's second book published as part of the DIALOGUE Book Series. In 2023, the third installment in the series was the popular Artsakh author's "Orange of the Lost Sun."
The current collection, symbolically titled "In the Womb of War," includes exclusively the author's wartime works, spanning the period from the First Karabakh War of 1991-1994 to the forced exodus of the people of Artsakh from their homeland following Azerbaijan's large-scale armed attack in September 2023, including stories about the "4-Day War" of 2016 and the "44-Day War" of 2020.
The stories are based on real events and comprehensively convey the atmosphere of the war and its post-war years. As a participant, witness, and chronicler of all these wars, the author artistically summarizes the events, focusing on the psychological and social aspects of war, creating quintessential images. These include soldiers, the wounded, prisoners and hostages, refugees, and ordinary civilians—children, women, and the elderly—who steadfastly endured the hardships and deprivations of war.
Ashot Beglaryan's stories and short stories clearly explore the idea of overcoming circumstances, one's own weakness, fear, destruction, and even death. The heroes of his works not only struggle with war and other manifestations of evil but also seem to challenge fate itself.
The founder of the DIALOGUE book series and the sponsor of the publication of "In the Womb of War" is Yuri Lyudvigovich Navoyan.
