ArmInfo. The Armavir Regional Court of First Instance has lifted the arrests of Gevorg Nersisyan and Hambardzum Nersisyan, the brother and nephew of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, placing them under house arrest.
As lawyer Ara Zohrabyan reported on his Facebook page, instead of arrest, they were placed under three months' house arrest, bail of 1 million drams, and a ban on unauthorized leave. Furthermore, the court imposed restrictions on the individuals' communication, limiting it to close relatives and lawyers. As a reminder, on November 2, 2025, Ara Zohrabyan reported that Gevorg Nersisyan and Hambardzum Nersisyan were detained on charges of hooliganism and obstructing election campaigning. On November 3, they were remanded in custody for two months and one month, respectively. The arrests were then extended. Lawyer Ara Zohrabyan released a video from the scene of the incident, emphasizing that there was no hooliganism, much less the obstruction of campaigning allegedly committed by his clients. Independent human rights activists believe that the Armenian authorities are attempting to pressure His Holiness Garegin II and force him to voluntarily leave the Mother See of Etchmiadzin.
