ArmInfo. The opposition Mother Armenia party will participate in the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026, jointly with the Prosperous Armenia Party, led by businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, as part of the "Armenia's Proposal" program. Andranik Tevanyan, leader of the Mother Armenia opposition faction, announced this on his Facebook page.
Speaking about the reasons for the faction's participation in the elections, Tevanyan noted that during Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's eight years in power, the country has faced wars, defeats, casualties, destruction, and betrayal. "They conspired to surrender Artsakh and created existential problems for Armenia because they are incapable of anything else. Even if they had wanted to achieve positive results, they would not have succeeded. The government leader, defeated and humiliated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, has become a geopolitical hostage, doomed to failure. He is dragging our country and people down with him. This is a government of lies, deceit, demagoguery, and populism. They came to power by taking the lives of one, the homes of another, the businesses of a third, and the state from all of us," Tevanyan emphasized. The faction leader noted that, as a result, the Armenian people are facing serious challenges, and Armenia's future is under threat, due to subjective factors and the policies of the defeated government. "The objective preconditions for Armenia's liquidation are practically zero. We are confident that it is possible to ensure genuine security and guaranteed peace. Let them not frighten our people with war and new casualties. They are the ones who bring war and casualties. We must bring peace and development. It's a shame that this government lasted so long. This is political nonsense. Let me remind you that the defeated former President of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, remained in power for only six months. The defeated Mikheil Saakashvili was also removed from power. The defeated Abulfaz Elchibey remained in power in Azerbaijan for nine months. These are just examples from the history of neighboring countries. We must not be an exception. On June 7, 2026, we must together close the page of shame and defeat," Tevanyan stated.
He added that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be decisive and emphasized the need for new leadership and fresh ideas. According to him, the current government is proposing peace based on a Turkish-Azerbaijani agenda, which implies a repeat of the Artsakh scenario. "We must eliminate the atmosphere of hatred artificially instilled in society. We counter the agenda imposed from outside and implemented by those occupying the prime minister's chair with an Armenian agenda," Tevanyan emphasized.
Speaking about the upcoming elections, the faction leader noted that they should be approached as a referendum on preserving Armenia's independence and territorial integrity. He stated that by making a choice in these elections, every citizen will answer important questions: do they want to be part of the Republic of Armenia or the so-called "Western Azerbaijan"? Do they want guaranteed peace or a temporary, ostensible ceasefire, depending on the will of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev? Do they seek to combat poverty among the general public or within the pockets of a small ruling group?
"This year must be the year of the overthrow of the current regime. The symbol of defeat must be removed so that our country can breathe a sigh of relief, straighten its back, and find life. The future of our country will depend on the vote of every citizen. Staying home, being passive, and becoming disillusioned is the same as desertion. We are not deserters, and we must prove it on June 7. The Mother Armenia faction will participate in the parliamentary elections and will play an important role in the change of power, assuming the function of a consolidator," Tevanyan emphasized, adding that their goal is not to gain mandates, but to achieve a change of power and close the page of defeats. Speaking about the reason for participating in the elections together with Gagik Tsarukyan, Tevanyan explained that this is due to the positive assessment of the "Armenia's Proposal" program, which was discussed and approved by various segments of society. In particular, as Tevanyan noted, the "Armenia's Proposal" program is different in that it is not written in the cabinets of ministers; It involves various layers of society: young people and business representatives, teachers and doctors, city dwellers and rural residents.
"In this regard, the program is gaining popularity because ordinary citizens are either speaking out about problems or making concrete proposals. And their voices are being heard. Adding the involvement of professional circles to this, the 'Armenia's Proposal' program becomes the number one alternative to what the authorities are proposing. Mother Armenia will enrich the 'Armenia's Proposal' program with its ideas and solutions by becoming a co-author. In the near future, we will present our proposals sector by sector, moving from city to city, village to village, courtyard to courtyard, and house to house. Running in the elections with Prosperous Armenia is a signal that a power center is emerging that represents a serious command and programmatic alternative to the authorities and is vying to assume the reins of state governance," the faction leader noted.
He also reminded that in the June 7 elections, every vote is of paramount importance, and therefore it is unacceptable to disperse votes. At the same time, he said, it's important not to close the door to consolidation by suggesting the formula "step aside and don't interfere with us," since, as Tevanyan noted, it's impossible to replace the current monopoly with a new one.
Tevanyan emphasized that they will do everything possible to ensure the opposition comes up with a unified agenda for a change of power and unified actions aimed at implementing it.
