ArmInfo. The New Force party, led by former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, strongly condemns this latest manifestation of the campaign against the Armenian Apostolic Church. This was stated in a statement by the party's board.
According to the source, the Armenian authorities, led by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, have crossed another line by initiating a criminal case against Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II.
"This entire affair against the Church is illegal and immoral; it does not promote civic solidarity or national unity either within the country or abroad. It has nothing to do with faith, much less the rule of law. This is yet another manifestation of Pashinyan's whims-yet another signal that autocracy is taking root in Armenia. It serves the interests of Pashinyan and his team and is driven solely by the 'need' to strengthen the power of the 'Civil Contract.' No one gave Nikol Pashinyan a mandate to interfere in religious matters, or solely in matters concerning the church hierarchy. This country and these people desire prosperity, security guarantees, and the rule of law. We can read the psalm ourselves, without being tormented by demands dictated by authorities whose term is coming to an end," the New Force party said in a statement. As a reminder, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia has launched a criminal investigation against Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II. As lawyer Ara Zohrabyan reported in a video message on social media, the Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church is accused of obstructing the execution of a court order in the case of the defrocking of Arman Saroyan.
