ArmInfo. I have no secrets from our people and society, but there are diplomatic nuances I must adhere to, and all possible issues have been discussed. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this in an interview with OTV, responding to a question about whether at least an approximate timeline for signing a peace agreement and liberating the occupied territories of the sovereign Republic of Armenia had been agreed upon during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Abu Dhabi.
"I want to settle the issue of the occupied territories once and for all. We have already discussed this, and we already have a document with supreme legal force in both countries. These issues will be resolved during the delimitation process," he said.
Furthermore, Pashinyan continued, the TRIP agreement includes an additional detail regarding delimitation and communications, as the border is long, and delimitation will take quite a long time. "Delimitation is a very, very detailed and complex process, and it is ongoing and will continue," he emphasized.
Regarding communications, the prime minister stated, the parties understand that the delimitation process needs to be organized somewhat differently. "In areas where a railway, pipeline, or power line is to run, in that section, say, 500 meters wide, we must first delimit, demarcate at least one and a half kilometers, so that neither side has any doubts, define the border with millimeter accuracy, and only then resolve issues related to communications," he said.
"Naturally, we also discussed issues related to the signing of the peace agreement and the further institutionalization of peace," Pashinyan concluded, without specifying a timeframe for the document's signing.
According to the Armenian side, as a result of armed aggression by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in May, November 2021, and September 2022, approximately 200 square kilometers of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia remain under occupation.
As a reminder, back in November 2023, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces controlled approximately 200 square kilometers of Armenian territory.
According to independent experts, during the 2021-2022 invasions alone, Azerbaijan occupied approximately 210 square kilometers of Armenian territory in Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik. Azerbaijan has also controlled an additional 70-80 square kilometers in Tavush and the Nakhichevan direction (Ararat, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik regions) since the 1990s.
