ArmInfo. The Armenian leadership has made no secret of its interest in rapprochement with the European Union, which is reflected, among other things, in the law adopted in April 2025 on the Republic of Armenia's accession to the European Union. This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin in an interview with Rossiya-24.
"We, of course, respect Armenia's sovereign right to choose partners and integration vectors, but we must also take into account the realities. Our Armenian partners were initially told that we expect the Armenian public to be presented with an objective picture of the existing economic dependencies and interdependencies," he said, referring to the benefits of Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Speaking about the situation in Armenia ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for June of this year, the diplomat acknowledged that, overall, the domestic political situation in the Republic is determined by preparations for these electoral processes. "And of course, against this backdrop, emotions are running high. Regarding external threats, hybrid threats, we know that such language is widely used in the European Union. We know relevant examples very well," he said.
According to him, the increased activity of non-governmental organizations affiliated with and funded by the West is certainly noticeable. "They are making significant efforts to discredit the Russian Federation, to discredit Russian-Armenian relations, the essence of our relations. And, of course, they are presenting the public with a distorted picture of what's happening in the world. And here, I think, we could also cooperate and engage in dialogue with our Armenian partners and friends in order to neutralize hybrid threats to our relations," he concluded.
