ArmInfo. The EU is considering resuming dialogue with Russia, Politico reported.
"There is a shared understanding in Brussels that the context is very different now than in 2022, and these initiatives have been well coordinated with other capitals," the publication wrote, citing an unnamed European diplomat involved in the study.
Another European diplomat emphasized that this step (improving relations with Russia - IF) "will be supported as long as it does not involve acting behind Ukraine's back."
Earlier, media reports indicated that French presidential adviser Emmanuel Bonne traveled to Moscow on February 3 for talks with Russian officials, including presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, as Europe prepares for a more active role in the negotiation process.
According to reports, the purpose of Bonn's trip to Moscow was to convince the Russian side that Europeans must be involved in any decision-making concerning European security and that they will not "simply sign any agreements" to end the conflict in Ukraine.
On February 3, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that preparations were underway to resume dialogue with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and that "discussions are underway at a technical level." He also announced that he intended to call his Russian counterpart.
Meanwhile, the day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in an interview with RT: "This is not serious. This is pathetic diplomacy. If you want to call and discuss something seriously, then call."
"The Russian president will always pick up the phone, listen to any proposals, and if we are talking about serious proposals, then I can assure you that they will not go unanswered with a serious, concrete, practical response," the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized. (INTERFAX)
