ArmInfo. Dialogue between Russia and Armenia is regular and takes place at all levels, including between the leaders of the two countries and representatives of the Russian-Armenian intergovernmental and interparliamentary commissions.
This was stated by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko, as reported by Parlamentskaya Gazeta, following a February 5 meeting with Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan in the Chamber of Regions, in response to journalists' questions.
"Cooperation between Russia and Armenia is very multifaceted, taking place in a wide range of areas. And the role of parliament as an important component of interstate relations is undoubtedly significant at such an intensive level of interaction," she stated.
Matviyenko reported that the meeting covered a full range of bilateral issues.
"In my opinion, the conversation was constructive. "It's open, sometimes heated, and contentious, but overall constructive and productive. We maintain regular contact and exchange opinions," the speaker noted.
She thanked Simonyan for his active participation in the work of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly. Matviyenko believes that the issues discussed at the February 5 meeting will elicit an "appropriate response" at the legislative forum.
"There are a number of pending working issues between our countries at the parliamentary level. We will, of course, encourage the executive authorities to resolve these issues more quickly," the speaker noted.
Speaking about plans for the future, Matviyenko noted the excellent work of the Russia-Armenia Interparliamentary Commission, whose next meeting will take place in March 2026.
"This is a very important component of the allied relations between our countries—parliamentary interaction and open parliamentary dialogue," Valentina Matviyenko is convinced.
